The deadline for free online updates to UID card details has been extended until September 14, 2023, as announced by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in June. Originally, the UIDAI permitted citizens to modify their Aadhaar card details online at no cost, as part of the Digital India campaign, according to an Economic Times report.
All Aadhaar card holders can make necessary changes to their Aadhaar cards until September 14. To update your Aadhaar details online, visit the UIDAI website at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/portal. You will need to provide your Aadhaar number and other requested information.
In an official UIDAI document, it was stated, “To encourage more residents to update their Aadhaar documents, it was decided to offer the option to update their Aadhaar documents through the myAadhaar portal free of charge until September 14.”
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is urging residents to update their Aadhaar cards, particularly if they were issued more than 10 years ago and have not been updated since. This is to ensure that the demographic information on the Aadhaar card remains accurate and current. Accurate demographic details enhance service delivery and increase the success rate of authentication.
UIDAI emphasizes that it never requests Proof of Identity (POI) or Proof of Address (POA) documents via email or WhatsApp for Aadhaar updates. To update your Aadhaar, you can do so securely online through UIDAI’s website, the myAadhaar portal, or by visiting a nearby Aadhaar centre.
In another development, the mobile payment platform Google Pay now supports Aadhaar-based identification for UPI activation. According to the Times of India (TOI), users can set their UPI PIN without the need for a debit card by registering for UPI through Aadhaar via the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It’s important to note that this feature is currently available to customers of only a few banks, with more banks expected to offer it in the near future.
