As the United Kingdom observes the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing this Friday, members of the British Royal Family paid their respects in various ways.
On Friday, Prince Harry honoured his grandmother’s memory with a private visit to her final resting place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Meanwhile, his wife, Meghan Markle, is currently in the United States.
Queen Elizabeth passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8, 2022. Following her state funeral and committal service, she was interred at the King George VI Memorial Chapel within the Windsor Castle grounds on September 19.
On the preceding Thursday, the Duke of Sussex attended the annual WellChild Awards, a charity event supporting seriously ill children. During the ceremony, Prince Harry fondly remembered Queen Elizabeth, saying, “As you know, I was unable to attend the awards last year due to my grandmother’s passing.
However, as you probably also know, she would have insisted that I be here with you all instead of attending her funeral. That’s precisely why, one year on, I believe she is looking down on all of us tonight, pleased that we are together, continuing to shine a light on such an extraordinary community.”
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth’s son, who is now King Charles III, is currently at Balmoral, where he visited the Crathie Kirk church and paid tribute to his late mother. A statement from King Charles read, “On this first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s passing and my ascension to the throne, we fondly remember her lengthy life, unwavering service, and the significance she held for so many of us.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton also honoured Queen Elizabeth on Friday by participating in a service at the historic St. David Cathedral in Wales.
