Israel's Role in World-Altering Mega Project Revealed

Discover how Israel’s pivotal role in the groundbreaking India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is set to reshape the world. Explore the implications of this historic initiative and its impact on global geopolitics.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has enthusiastically welcomed the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), hailing it as an extraordinary collaboration of historic proportions that will transform the Middle East, and Israel, and have global implications. During the G20 meeting in New Delhi, leaders from the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union together revealed this ambitious economic corridor, which many regard as an alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

In a video message released late Saturday evening, Netanyahu expressed his gratitude for the statement issued by these nations. Amid ongoing protests in Israel against a judicial overhaul plan perceived as undermining judicial authority, Netanyahu’s announcement aimed to uplift the nation.

Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would be at the heart of this unprecedented international endeavour, connecting infrastructure from Asia to Europe. He described this vision as a transformative initiative that begins in India and extends through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel before reaching Europe.

This announcement comes at a time when discussions regarding the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia are ongoing. Although the two nations lack formal diplomatic ties, there have been signs of thawing relations, such as allowing Israeli airlines to use Saudi airspace. Reports suggest that Saudi Arabia has made specific demands to the United States as a condition for normalizing ties with Israel, some of which are contentious.

Netanyahu credited US President Joe Biden and his administration for their significant efforts in bringing this initiative to fruition. He highlighted the project’s significance in reshaping the region and turning dreams into reality.

The IMEC initiative encompasses various components, including the construction of railways, a hydrogen pipeline for sustainable energy, fibre optic communication cables, electricity cables, and additional infrastructure projects. Netanyahu pledged Israel’s commitment to this historic collaboration, with all government ministries instructed to participate actively.

He also directed the National Security Council to coordinate closely with the US and other countries to expedite the realization of this vision. Netanyahu sees this project as ushering in a new era of global and regional cooperation and engagement.

Despite ongoing protests and challenges in Israel, Netanyahu sought to assure the nation that the economy was stable and under control. He had hinted at this significant project during his recent visits to Greece and Cyprus in an effort to boost morale and support among his constituents.
