Chennai mourns the loss of the esteemed director-actor, G Marimuthu, who passed away on Friday due to a sudden cardiac arrest at a private hospital in the city. The tragic incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. while Marimuthu was in the midst of dubbing his voice for a television serial. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Vadapalani, where he was regrettably declared deceased.
In a heartfelt tribute, fans, family members, and friends gathered at his residence in Chennai to pay their respects. The final journey will take him to his native place in Theni District, with the last rites scheduled to be performed there. Notably, Marimuthu had made a recent appearance in the movie ‘Jailer,’ alongside the iconic Rajinikanth.
The news of the filmmaker’s passing prompted an outpouring of condolences from the film industry, with many expressing their grief on social media platforms. Sun Pictures, the production company behind ‘Jailer,’ paid their respects by stating, “Condolences! Your work has been impeccable and irreplaceable. Rest in peace #Marimuthu.”
G Marimuthu’s artistic journey began as a filmmaker with his 2008 debut ‘Kannum Kannum.’ Alongside directing, he also showcased his acting prowess in various Tamil films. In his early career, he collaborated with the renowned lyricist Vairamuthu and served as an assistant director in Tamil cinema.
Marimuthu’s memorable performances include notable films such as ‘Vaali,’ ‘Jeeva,’ ‘Pariyerum Perumal,’ and ‘Jailer,’ among others. He has also been a part of the Tamil television series ‘Ethir Neechal’ since 2022. Additionally, Marimuthu enjoyed a significant presence on social media platforms, where his opinions and insights resonated with many.
